Dear Visitor

FRESH OUT!

October 2026

A new entry is out now!

KEYWORD‍

maruja by Maria Soledad Caballero Sanchez

The entry analyses critically the Spanish term maruja [housewife] which labels women's unpaid work of care of children, the elderly, and the house through the stereotype of the undeducated woman only dedicated to gossiping and consumption of morning TV shows. Relegating women to domestic spheres while systematically devaluing their potentials and choices as individuals normalises and reproduces the gender gap and and make invisibile their role in society. Feminist authors and activists challenge and subvert the socio-culturally constructed representation of the housewife, rejecting pejorative, sexist, and classist weight of the term maruja, vindicating for women's rights.
