The Newsletter will also disseminate Calls for conferences and publications connected to issue of Othering.

 

And you can become an active participant to IOW's dictionary, by proposing and discussing words that are used to (re)produce different forms of Otherness, and/or suggesting keywords that you would like to be discussed!

  • Coming soon: in December 2021, we have added this new entry in the main menu of IOW's webpage so that you can be updated on the keywords that are being edited and that will be uploaded next.

 

 PUBLICATIONS

  • January, 2022: the Special Issue of the Rhetoric of Otherness (Issue 50) was published on the Rhetoric and Communications Journal. Eleven contributions tackle the topic in instigating, creative, and critical outlooks from various methodological approaches and different countries – Italy, Canada, South Korea, Bulgaria, Rumania, Moldova.  CONFERENCES

  • 2021, October 22-23, Sussex, UK: four components of IOW's Editorial Board presented at the Sussex Colloquium on the Language of Covid 19: The Language of Covid: discourse analytic and sociolinguistic approaches to an 'unprecedented health crisis, University of Essex, UK. The title of the presentation was: ' "We are at War". The Military Rhetoric of Covid in Cross-Cultural Discourses'.

 

  • 2022, June 15-17, Alicante, Spain: IOW’s Editorial Board will conduct a Methodological Workshop at the 6th ESTIDIA (European Society for Transcultural and Interdisciplinary Dialogue): Conference Dialogue-shared Experiences across Space and Time: Cross-linguistic and Cross-cultural Practices. The title od IOW’s Workshop is "IN OTHER WORDS. Coming to grips with critical, creative, inter-/cross-cultural dialogue across space and time. A methodological workshop to explore the role of keywords in (re)producing or problematizing Otherness".

  • The I-Land (Identity, Language and Diversity) Research Centre has organised a series of seminars (16:30-18:30 CET time) as follows:

 

- Feb., 10th: Hate Speech - Session 1

- March, 10th: Gender in Trans-ition

- March, 24th: Genere e sessualità: nuove

  prospettive e approcci metodologici

- May, 26th: Language and Style.
